The Architect's Second Life

Your whole life was a stage—now the set is collapsing and only you can make the final exit.

You've always felt a little out of step with your life, but you never imagined why: your home, your job, even your family are props in an elaborate stage production, designed by a reclusive genius who watched your every move. When he dies, the set begins to crumble, and you must escape into the real world using only the stage props and your wits. But nothing in the wings is what it seems, and the architect's final act may be the most perilous of all.

The story begins

The fluorescent light in your cubicle flickered once, twice, and then went out with a wet, guttering sound—like a candle drowning. You looked up from the spreadsheet, annoyed, and noticed the ceiling tile above your desk was no longer drywall. It was canvas, stretched taut over wooden struts, painted to look like acoustic paneling.

You stood slowly. Across the open-plan office, no one else seemed to notice. Brenda from accounting was still typing. The coffee machine still gurgled. But the walls behind them had a faint, visible seam—a hairline crack of darkness running floor to ceiling, as if the whole room were a stage flat, waiting to be struck.

Then the intercom crackled. A voice you’d never heard before, low and calm: “The show is over. Find your way out.”

The floor shuddered. A framed motivational poster fell from the wall and shattered, revealing bare plywood beneath.

Brenda turned. Her face was still perfectly pleasant, but her eyes had gone flat, like a mannequin’s.

What happens next is up to you.
