The Cinder Bride's Song

Your voice can tame the volcano, but the wedding you must join will feed it.

You are the last of the Emberwrights, a line that can sing the volcanic vents to sleep. With the kingdom’s doom three days away, you must infiltrate the royal wedding procession as a masked performer—the bride’s father holds the only pass to the caldera. But every note you sing to quell the mountain feeds the fire, and the wedding itself is a sacrifice to the very volcano you must stop. A breakneck adventure through treacherous lands, a forbidden courtship, and an impossible choice: save the kingdom or save yourself.

The story begins

The caldera’s sulfur breath hit your mask the moment the procession crested the ridge, a hot, rotten wind that rattled the brass bells sewn into your sleeves. You kept your stride loose—the performer’s shamble—while your eyes worked the column: two hundred nobles in ash-veiled silks, a dozen priests chanting in the old tongue, and there, at the center, the Bride in her black wedding dress, walking with the measured tread of a woman already dead.

You’d sung down three vents in the last moon. Each note fed the mountain. You felt it now, the tremor under your boots, a bass note the priests’ chanting couldn’t hide.

“You.” A gauntleted hand clamped your shoulder. The Royal Guard, face hidden behind a bronze helm, voice flat as iron. “The priest wants the fire-dancer’s blessing before the Veil Pass. You’re up.”

The Bride’s veil turned toward you. Beneath the ash, her eyes were too sharp for a sacrifice.

What happens next is up to you.
