The Debt of Fangs

Mature

You owe the serpent-queen a life-debt, and tonight you'll face the mirrors that want your skin.

You've spent your life building a name to outrun your family's shame, but the Night Market's serpent-queen holds your debt—and she's come to collect. To settle it, you must enter the Hall of Hungry Mirrors and retrieve the eye of the first sun, a treasure that will pay off your debt and restore your family's honor. But every mirror holds a version of you that took a different path—and some of those versions are very, very hungry for your skin. In this epic adventure of survival and self-confrontation, every reflection is a threat, and the only way out is through the worst of yourself.

The story begins

The summons found you at the ninth bell, folded into a paper serpent that coiled around your wrist and hissed the Serpent-Queen's command: The Hall of Hungry Mirrors. The eye of the first sun. Before dawn, or the debt is paid in blood.

You left the Night Market's lantern-lit stalls behind, the vendors' calls fading into the hum of something older. The Hall loomed ahead—a black marble facade, its doors already open, exhaling cold air that smelled of dust and old silver.

Inside, the mirrors began. A thousand silvered surfaces, each one catching your reflection at a different angle. But the reflections were wrong. One showed you laughing, unburdened, dressed in silks that cost more than your life-debt. Another showed you old, gray-haired, surrounded by children who shared your eyes. A third showed you kneeling, a blade at your throat, your mouth open in a scream you could almost hear.

In every mirror, your other selves turned to look at you. And smiled.

"Debtor," whispered a voice from everywhere at once—your own voice, but wrong. "We've been waiting."

What happens next is up to you.
