The Debtor's Prize

Mature

Survive the prince's arena, or lose your heart to the beast that knows your name.

You're a courier caught forging an imperial seal, and now a rogue prince has thrown you into his deadly hunting grounds as collateral. Win the arena and your debt is cleared; lose, and the beast takes your heart. But the beast speaks with the voice of your long-dead sister, and it seems to know you better than you know yourself. In a world of ancient ruins and monstrous predators, can you outlast the hunt and unravel the mystery before the prince's game claims you?

The story begins

The iron gate slammed shut behind you with a sound like a coffin lid. The arena floor was slick with old blood and morning dew, and the statues of forgotten kings stared down with blind, moss-eaten eyes. High above, Prince Kaelen lounged on his balcony, a goblet of wine catching the pale light.

"Ten silver says she runs," his voice drifted down, casual as a weather report.

You didn't run. You'd learned long ago that running only made predators excited.

The Beast emerged from the shadow of a fallen archway. It was immense—scaled, low-slung, its breath fogging in the cold air. But it didn't lunge. It tilted its head, and when it spoke, your blood turned to ice.

"You left me there."

Your sister's voice. The one you'd heard fade beneath the floodwater six years ago. The one you'd told yourself you couldn't save.

The Beast took a step closer.

"You could have reached me. You chose the satchel instead."

You had no weapon. No plan. Only the terrible weight of a truth you'd buried for years.

What happens next is up to you.
