The Gilded Memory
You wake in a palace that knows you, but you don't know yourself.
You awaken in a lavish palace you've never seen, yet every servant greets you by name and the treasury holds proof of conquests you cannot recall. A note in your own handwriting warns that the person who made you is the one you must kill—but who made you, and why? Caught between a kingdom's adoration and the shadow of your own past, you must piece together the truth before the gilded illusion shatters. With enemies hiding behind every smile and allies you can't trust, your only way out is to uncover the secret buried beneath the gold.
The story begins
The silk of the sheets was the first thing you felt—too soft, too cool, as if they'd been woven to erase every trace of the body that had slept in them. Then the light, amber and merciless, poured through the tall windows and found the ache behind your eyes.
You sat up. The room was a cathedral of gilt and marble, and you had no name for it.
A woman stood at the foot of the bed, hands clasped, head bowed. Elara. The name surfaced from somewhere—not memory, but instinct, the way you knew the weight of a crown before you'd ever touched one.
"You're awake, Your Majesty."
Her voice trembled. You noticed the way her eyes flicked to the bedside table, where a folded piece of paper waited. Your handwriting, though you didn't remember writing it.
You unfolded it. The words were yours, precise and cold:
The person who made me is the one I must kill.
Dated tomorrow.
Your throat tightened. Elara shifted her weight, watching you with a fear that seemed too practiced.
"My lord," she said softly, "the council awaits your word."
