The Painted Prison

You are a brushstroke in a masterpiece of lies—and tonight, the canvas tears.

You've spent your life as the groundskeeper of a vast estate, tending gardens that bloom with impossible colors and pruning hedges that whisper your name. But when you discover you are one of the Architect's paintings—a living brushstroke in a world built on deception—your memories, your scars, and even your love become suspect. As the canvas tears, you must navigate a reality unraveling at the seams, hunting for the truth that lies beneath the paint. In a world that isn't real, your only hope is to find the canvas's edge—and cross it before the Architect paints you out of existence.

The story begins

The painted sun bled orange across the hills, and you knelt in the damp soil at the base of the ancient oak, pruning shears still in your hand. The garden smelled of crushed mint and wet earth, but something else cut through—a faint, chemical scent, like turpentine left to dry.

Your fingers found the bark, and the crack was there before you thought to look for it. A hairline fissure, running up the trunk like a vein, and behind it—nothing. A white so flat and empty it made your stomach lurch. You pressed closer, and the bark flaked away under your thumb, revealing more of that terrible blank.

You touched it. Just a brush of your fingertips.

The color left your hand first. The tan of your skin, the faint scar across your knuckles—all of it drained as if wiped with a cloth, leaving pale, featureless flesh beneath.

You snatched your hand back, heart hammering. The scar was gone. The one you'd had since the pruning accident. The one that had always felt like part of you.

A voice drifted from the path behind you. Ivy.

"Don't look at the tear," she said, breathless. "Whatever you do. Don't look."

What happens next is up to you.
