The Painted Successor

You wake in a house that paints your life one brushstroke at a time—and the canvas is almost finished.

You awaken in a lavish bedroom you've never seen, attended by servants who call you 'madam' and surrounded by portraits depicting a life you never lived. As you piece together this fabricated existence, you realize the house itself is alive—and it wants you to stay, as its next masterpiece. When the painter arrives to finish your portrait, you must uncover the truth hidden in the paint before the final stroke seals your fate forever. A thrilling haunted house mystery where every memory is a lie and the only way out is through the canvas.

The story begins

The scent of turpentine and cold marble woke you before your eyes did—sharp, chemical, wrong against the silk pillowcase. You sat up in a bed you'd never slept in, the canopy heavy as a coffin lid, and found your hands already gloved in lace.

The portrait on the wall opposite caught your eye. A woman in pearl-gray satin, hair done in the same elaborate twist you could feel pinned at your nape. The face was yours. It always was.

You swung your legs over the edge, bare feet hitting the frozen floorboards, and the house seemed to inhale—a long, slow breath through the walls. From somewhere below, footsteps. Measured. Deliberate. Coming closer.

The door opened without a knock. A man stood there, easel slung over one shoulder, paint-stained fingers curling around the frame. His eyes found yours and held, a flicker of something unreadable passing through them before he smiled.

"Lady Ashworth," he said, and the name sat wrong in your mouth. "I'm here to finish what we started."

What happens next is up to you.
