The Pale Choir's Cage

You are the last voice-shaper, and the storm-whales are starving.

Beneath a world-sea, the citadel that guards the last voice-shaper is sinking, and the storm-whales that circle the globe are starving. As the only one whose song can calm their hunger, you must descend into the drowned depths to compose a dirge for the dying—or face the devouring silence that follows. But the citadel's walls are cracking, and something else stirs in the deep. A desperate choice awaits: save the whales that sustain the world, or save the people who raised you. Adventure and survival clash in this epic underwater epic.

The story begins

The salt-scoured stone of the singing gallery was cold beneath your bare feet, the air thick with the brine of the rising tide. Below, through the fractured coral floor, you could see the flooded archives—scrolls dissolving into ghostly pulp, the skeletons of forgotten songs drifting in the current. The storm-whales' chorus vibrated through the citadel's bones, a low, mourning hum that made your teeth ache.

Mira stood at the threshold, her lantern casting long shadows across the carved runes. Her voice, when she spoke, was barely a whisper. "They're starving faster than I predicted. The Warden says we have until the moon rises."

You had spent your whole life learning to sing the whales to calm. But a dirge was a different beast entirely. It required surrender, not control. Your throat tightened at the thought.

A sudden tremor shook the gallery, sending a cascade of coral dust from the ceiling. Through the water below, you saw it—a massive, shadowed form circling, its eye the size of a shield, fixed on you with desperate intelligence.

Kaelen was watching.

What happens next is up to you.
