The Ruin's Vow

You destroyed your city—now journey to the Ruin of the First Word to undo it, with the rival who swore to kill you.

You are the sole survivor of a catastrophe that leveled your city—and the one who caused it, though you remember nothing. A cryptic note from your dead mentor points to the cursed Ruin of the First Word, where a pact with a stone god might rewrite the past. But to get there, you must join forces with the rival who blames you for everything and holds the key to your lost memories. Secrets and survival traps await, and the stone god demands a vow that could cost more than your life.

The story begins

The wind carried ash and the smell of copper. You stood at the Ruin's threshold, the mentor's note crumpled in your fist, its ink bleeding into your palm like a confession. Three stone arches yawned ahead, their surfaces carved with spirals that seemed to shift when you blinked. Behind you, the wasteland stretched empty, save for the bones of Kareth—charred ribs of buildings that had once been your home. That you had made your home.

Your rival stepped out from behind a broken pillar, blade low, eyes hard. A scar you didn't remember giving them ran from temple to jaw. They stopped ten feet away and let the sword point rest in the dirt.

"You still carry that lie," they said, nodding at the note.

You looked down. The mentor's handwriting was unmistakable: The Stone God does not answer the worthy. It answers the broken. You were always both.

A low groan rolled through the earth, and the first archway cracked, shedding dust. The Ruin was waking. Your rival tilted their head, a grim invitation.

"Truce," they said. "Until we reach the heart. Then we settle what you did."

What happens next is up to you.
