The Soul-Bound Oath

Mature

Your soul is the price of a cure—and the hunter who owns it is the only one who can help you find it.

Your sister is dying, and the only cure lies deep in a cursed jungle. When a ruthless treasure hunter offers you a way in, you accept his soul-oath—binding your future to his every step. But with every mile, a piece of your tomorrow is stolen, and breaking the oath means death. As the jungle closes in and the hunter's true motives surface, you must decide how much of yourself you're willing to sacrifice—and whether saving your sister is worth damning you both.

The story begins

The jungle held its breath as you pressed the blade of your machete against the gnarled vine blocking the path. Sweat traced a cool line down your spine despite the canopy's oppressive heat. Behind you, Liora coughed—that wet, rattling sound that had become your constant companion these past months—and you felt the weight of her trust like a stone in your chest.

Kael stood at the edge of the clearing, arms crossed, watching you with those calculating eyes that never quite revealed their intent. His hand rested on the hilt of a dagger that had seen more blood than water. "The vine moves." His voice was low, almost reverent. "It remembers your oath."

And that's when you felt it—a pull deep in your chest, like a hook catching on a rib. A year of memories, of sunsets and laughter and your mother's face, frayed at the edges and began to dissolve. The cost of the step you'd yet to take.

The vine twisted, revealing a small, pulsing flower at its core, its petals the color of fresh blood. It hummed with a sickly sweetness.

"Don't," Liora whispered, but her voice was distant now, thin as smoke.

The flower opened wider, and the jungle leaned in to listen.

What happens next is up to you.
